    10 Dec 2018

This is my last newsletter for the year. There is lots happening over the next week.

Friday is our monster raffle day.

Garry Pallett is making his last performance at the Warkworth RSA.

Please note the days that the kitchen is closed over the holiday period.

Have fun over that time and remember to stay safe and enjoy time with loved ones.

Firstly thank you to all the members that supplied feedback from a few of the changes the committee have made over the last week or so. Some interesting discussion on our requirements around the club.

Coming into the club with fresh eyes you can notice issues that need to be addressed to either make the club run smoother or more resilient over the quiet months like January.

There was a very small crowd for our 60's show on Saturday night. The people that were at the show had a fabulous time with Shane in a very intimate setting. Shane is a real entertainer with so much knowledge of the old rock and roll hits. I have attached a couple of photos to this report and on our Facebook page.

Heading into the silly season let's try to keep the standard of behaviour to our normal level in the club. We want a friendly and happy environment to enjoy time with our friends.

Drink responsibly and have a good time. Mike W

Some of you may have noticed this is out a bit later than usual. Humble apologies a busy week at the club. Firstly I have reduced the price of the show for Saturday. I have reduced the price to $15 for every one. Not enough tickets have been sold to cover costs. Please drum up some support for the club and help me to get a few more sales through the door.

The committee have been particularly busy of late and have stated a few changes around the club.

Firstly they have asked bar staff no longer hold your cards behind the bar. As part of our licensing requirements if the police conduct a licence inspection you as a member must produce your membership card on demand. Same for your guests etc.

There is a new charge for late payment of your membership of $10 if you have not paid your fees by the end of January. Also your discounts will not apply if your membership has not been paid by 1 January until you have renewed your subscriptions. Nadine and I will get your new superscription invoices out as soon as possible to avoid any of these issues.

Work continues on the kitchen and bar areas and I will keep you informed of any new developments.

Feel free to drop in for a chat if you have any concerns.

I am about to revamp the news letter so keep an eye on this space in the future.

Almost said Merry Christmas to finish but that is next month.

I am off to the Oaks on Neville to have a look at a private collection of world war one items, starts at two o'clock so if you read this in time we are invited to view.

Melbourne cup day was very busy for the club last week. I did not have any success in any sweepstakes run by the club.
Armistice Day went well and I will place some photos on our face book page if I get enough time today. A lot of work put in by organising committee members Noelene Baldwin, Joss Myers and John Stephen. Also thanks to the committee members that made them selves available on the day. On this I must thanks Fran our caterer and her team for supplying lunch.
As always our community members that worked hard to make the event a success including but not limited to Bishop Bluck, Lou Perkins and Donna Flack our colour party and to the descendants and wider members of the community that attended the event.
We need to sell tickets for our last big music event of the year the 60s tribute show. Tickets are behind the bar. Radio advertising has started so get in before all the good seats are taken.

Melbourne cup day is upon us. There is still time to come down and place a bet at our TAB kiosk. There might be space on one of our sweepstakes. Apply at the bar.

We are putting our final plans in place for Armistice day. Service starts before 11 am on the 11th of November which is this Sunday. Lunch is available at $30 but this is not compulsory. The bar will be open. Our show tickets are selling or the 24th of November. It is a fantastic show and will be a great night. Radio advertising will start shortly so come in now to get the seats you want before they are taken. This would be a fantastic Christmas function for any work place out there.

Christmas raffle tickets are also available behind the bar. I have seen the new armistice coins. They are fantastic and again available for sale behind the bar. There is a poster in the news letter with photos.

We still have two unclaimed prizes from the managers raffle last week.

A general reminder if you are intoxicated you can not be on the premises. The intoxication does not only relate to Alcohol. If  you are on medication and you have a reaction with alcohol it could very well be that you are intoxicated only after one standard drink. The bar staff will refuse service at all times you are intoxicated. The club and the bar staff can be fined up to $10,000 for offending against that part of the legislation.

On a happier note our President and Vice presidents are at the annual RSA conference in Wellington and will hopefully bring us up to date any new information from Head office.

Fireworks will be on sale in the car park area over the Guy Fawkes period and they have kindly donated the prize for the raffle and a donation towards our kitchen repairs. Feel free to offer your support if you like that sort of thing.

I am still looking for a casual bar team member if any one is keen to be called upon every once and a while let me know.

Finally we have Melbourne cup sweepstakes for sale behind the bar. The race will be on at the club on the Tuesday.

    Armistice Day 2018 Commemoration

At 11am today the 11th November, we marked the centenary of the armistice that ended the First World War in 1918. On that day 100 years ago, after four years of brutal conflict, war finally gave way to peace.

We celebrated this day at the Warkworth Cenotaph with a Service at 11.02am after two minutes silence was observed.

Following the Service a luncheon was held at the RSA for our Vets, Returned Service and club members. Many thanks to the Mahurangi College Kapa Haka Group who then entertained.
